Jun. 27th, 2007 01:11 pmWah, I don't really know what I did wrong (well, I guess I do). Yesterday was my father's birthday and we went out for dinner. And after that I had two peaces of chocolate cake. And this morning I still felt full, but had breakfast with a friend anyway. And now my stomach is really, really angry with me. I even skipped going to the gym.
But maybe it's my grandmother's fault, after all; honestly, it's so hard for me to stay civil when she's talking shit like that. Obvilously she knows the French from the English just from their looks and „how they move“ (whatever that's supposed to mean). So. The French are „darker“ (as far as I know she has only been to Antipes) and the English are „slim“. And have red hair. Vikings, essentially. (As far as I know she's NEVER been to England. Or the UK.) And not to forget the Dutch, who, apparently, are a people of „milk faces“ (again, whatever she meant by that).
Something else? Yeah. It seems it's hardly imagineyble that there are really people out there speaking Chinese („How do they do that?“) and Chinese and Japanese sound the same. But of course she knows the difference between American English and Brithish English. Yep.
We were not agreeing with her which equals „attacking“ her, obviously (you know, she doesn't want to hear what I wanted to say, then). And she got teary eyed. But valiantly stayed calm. Then she talked about her next birthday and how she „had“ to buy a new dress for that, because she hadn't been able to do that five years ago. Yeah, well. Guess why.
And how it was almost useless to buy it because somehow she'd die before ever wearing it. Teary eyed. (And YES, it still was the dinner for my father's birthday.)
And the waiter was bad. Because he talked to her. Bad boy, it seems.
Much fun, really.
Then I bought some stuff... I bought quite a lot of stuff lately. First The Monk and some books for my mother's upcoming birthday. Then some CDs (Haggard and Qntal), more books and the first season of House on DVD. Yes, I'm kind of addicted.
One of the books is Convergence Culture by Henry Jenkins (why is Textual Poachers that expensive?!) and I'm really looking forward to reading it, but that has to wait a little. Until after the exams.
Then I maybe found some place for an internship – not that I applied yet, but it sounds quite good. Only two days a week, for three or six months and in a small publishing house. I guess I'll call there this week. Or next.
