Quoted from the live journal of Joyful Molly
"There's a level of fuckery where even the most mild-mannered person gets the wish to find a rusty knife and use it to cut a couple of balls off. This is one of those cases, and as unbelievable as it is, it's true. I'll sum it up for the TL;DR crowd:
South Korean actress Choi Jin Shil gets beaten up by abusive husband.
Case becomes public.
Big media spectacle.
Choi Jin Shil commits suicide.
Construction company Shinhan, for whom Choi Jin Shil was spokesperson, sues her (whether before or after her suicide, I haven't figured out yet) because she went public about being abused and "damaged the company's reputation".
Lower court tells company to fuck off.
Company appeals.
Still with me? OK...
The Supreme Court awards Shinhan with $ 630'000.
That's 1/5 of the estate left to Choi Jin Shil's children.
The Supreme Court's reasoning:
"The purpose of the brand model contract is to use the model’s social reputation and images to draw the customers’ interest, the model’s failure to maintain an adequate image constitutes a breach of the hiring contract."
I'll wait for a moment so you can get a bucket and throw up.
Finished? Good.
Now what to do?
Write to the South Korean embassy in your country - http://kr.embassyinformation.com/?einfo - and let them know what you think of this fuckery.
Let Shinhan know what you think. - https://www.seco.co.kr/eng/cs/cs_04.htm
Let their international customers know what you think of Shinhan. - http://www.seco.co.kr/eng/over/over_01.htm
Feel free to repost. Name and shame them."
